Christ, this is fucking miserable. In the best possible way, of course. Xasthur has this interesting method of making the most damp recordings sound absolutely hypnotizing and magical, and A Gate Through Blood Stained Mirrors is of no exception to that rule. This is a long one, to be honest, but if you've got the time, the pay off is phenomenal. This shits on most "transcendent" black metal.
The version I heard is the reissue of this demo and is of the 2004 year. This is one of the best black metal demos and the best work of Xasthur that I've heard. Here we have the most complete darkness in music. This is exactly how black metal should sound. A sense of horror and a depressing and scary atmosphere. The cover is good and the intro is spectacular.

The battery is typical for this type of black metal, being slow, simple and perfectly matched to the music. Malefic's vocals on this album are in the tone and are not very loud as in some albums like the Subliminal Genocide. In addition, what you have to highlight are the distorted guitars in the song Eternal Empire Of Majesty Death that convey a feeling of hatred and without doubt this version is much better than the original.

The most scary track is the Moon Shrouded in Misery Part 1. The best songs are: Moon Shrouded in Misery, Part 1, Dwelling Beneath The Woods, Eternal Empire Of Majesty Death (instrumental Mutiilation cover), Moon Shrouded In Misery (Part 2) and Black Spell Of Destruction (instrumental Burzum cover). The demo has some boring tracks like Suicide In Dark Serenity, but the ones that are good hold the note I give for the demo. I strongly recommend it to all those black metal fans. If you want to meet the band, start with that.
